The Dead Files: The Haunting of Flagstaff
The series came to town for a haunted crystal shop and left having declared the entire town engulfed. The two-hour special investigated Crystal Magic, the Weatherford Hotel, the Orpheum Theater, and the Downtown Diner, and the Weatherford threw a premiere screening the night it aired. Susan Johnson supplied the town’s documented dark history for the investigation, including the 1937 Walkup case, and her son Nick Jones appeared on camera.
Ghost Adventures: Fear in Flagstaff
A year later, Ghost Adventures arrived for its own Flagstaff episode, Fear in Flagstaff, with the Weatherford Hotel at the center of the investigation. Susan Johnson was interviewed for the episode, the historian the crews call when the lockdown needs a past to explain it. The hometown paper covered the visit under a headline about the hotel’s supernatural secrets.
Two national shows, two years running, walking one small downtown. The history they were mining is the history in this book.
Television gets an hour. The archive gets 112 pages, with the sourcing on every story the cameras chased.
