Weatherford Hotel
A figure crosses the Zane Grey Ballroom floor and does not stop at the wall.
1 N San Francisco Street, downtown Flagstaff
The corner of San Francisco Street and Route 66 has been commercial ground since Flagstaff’s first blocks were platted, and the building that houses the Crystal Magic shop carries more than a century of tenants under its floorboards. Downtown lore holds that the town’s early saloon district ran within sight of this corner.
Reports of activity in the shop reached far enough that Travel Channel’s The Dead Files built its two-hour Flagstaff special around investigating it in 2022, alongside the Weatherford Hotel and the Orpheum Theater. The team’s conclusion, in the show’s words, was that the whole town is engulfed. Flagstaff did not exactly argue.
The episode is the doorway; the history is the house. Susan Johnson provided the historical background for that investigation, and Haunted Flagstaff is where the town’s record actually lives.
