The history
The Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library sits a short walk from the hotels and the tracks, on ground that has been part of downtown’s working life since the territorial years. Libraries make unlikely haunts, which is probably why this one’s story travels so well.
The haunting
The persistent local account is a custodian who worked the building’s lower level and, by the telling, never quite left it. Staff stories describe sounds from the basement level after closing and the feeling of being accompanied on the stairs. Downtown Flagstaff’s business alliance lists the library among the district’s haunted addresses, which for a municipal building is its own kind of endorsement.
